The Furnas volcano and Nordeste are two of São Miguel’s East highlights. Furnas volcano is even considered the island’s tourism capital and if you want to experience the vigor of nature, this excursion to the East side of the island is the ideal way to do it. Furnas is home to a series of hot springs, boiling water calderas, bubbling mud calderas and fumaroles created by the dormant volcano beneath the ground.

The thermal pools you’ll find here have always been an attraction for all kinds of travelers who take the opportunity to visit one of Portugal’s most beautiful botanical gardens and relax in the thermal waters naturally heated by the volcano. You will be given the option to visit “Terra Nostra” one of Europe’s most beautiful botanical gardens to customize your day tour. (optional, fee not included – 17€ per person)

In Nordeste, you’ll be surrounded by green mountains and waterfalls, with a breathtaking view of the Atlantic Ocean. This is the only habitat in the world for the Priolo, a bird endemic to São Miguel. With a knowledgeable guide, you’ll have the opportunity to learn about the region’s unique geology and history, as well as explore its natural beauty.

The last surprise we have planned for you is a stop at Gorreana tea facility, the last 100% natural plantation in the world, where you can taste tea and visit the plantation.
