We recently enjoyed a two-day tour of San Miguel in the Azores, and it exceeded all our expectations. The island’s beauty is breathtaking, and every stop felt like a new discovery—from stunning viewpoints like Sete Cidades to the calming thermal waters of Furnas.
What made the experience truly unforgettable was our guide, Diego. His knowledge of the island’s history, culture, and natural wonders was impressive, and he delivered it with so much passion. Diego had a genuine enthusiasm for showing us the hidden gems of San Miguel, and he tailored the tour to suit our interests. Whether it was sharing local stories or taking us to the best spots to avoid crowds, Diego made sure we got the most out of every moment.
He was not only professional but also kind, patient, and thoughtful—always checking in to make sure we were comfortable and enjoying ourselves. Diego’s love for the island was contagious, and by the end of the tour, we felt like we had gained a deeper connection to San Miguel thanks to him.
This was our first time for the Azores and we had a great to-do list for the island of San Miguel.
We were fortunate to have Diogo our first day and his father John on the second day. Both are knowledgeable about the island and both are fun!
Needless to say, our list of sights was complete. We had the best Portuguese cooked dinner (lunch) and a buffet of traditional Azorean fish/meats.
John even made a quick trip so that my wife could take a picture at her mother's childhood home (it was much closer to our hotel than we thought). Even so, it went beyond the scope of the tour and we are eternally grateful for his kindness.
Abrigado Diogo & João!!!
We cannot possibly express how wonderful this tour was. It was the best tour we’ve ever gone on. Joses was the best!!! Super knowledgeable and kind and fun to hang out with. We learned so much about this gem of an island. We saw amazing sites and had wonderful experiences and food and treats along the way. Best way to see the island right when you arrive so you can go back to your favorite spots. Can’t say enough of how great this was! Thanks for the experience!
OMG our tour was just amazing! Our tour guide Joao picked us up at a pre arranged location holding a sign with my name on it! Hid van was spotlessly clean. Joao spoke perfect English and told us many many stories along the way. Touring was so much better than the large busses I saw a long the way with 80 people on board.
Make sure you book this trip in the Azores!

Exceeded all expectations
I'm going to say that as independent travelers we rarely take tours, but the weather wasn't good, we didn't want to rent a car and we only had a few days before leaving the island. The weather improved and we booked this tour at the last minute.
Best decision ever. There's no way we could have made the effort to see all these places without exploding in a week, let alone a day.
We were met at our agreed meeting point at the agreed time and after that we were entirely in the hands of our guide, which made for a totally stress-free day.
The mini van was modern, air-conditioned and the maximum group size is 8 people.
We had a lovely mix of people, but there was also plenty of opportunity to spend time away from the group if you wanted to.
Our guide/driver was a lovely young man who clearly knew his stuff, gave us choices along the way and never rushed us.
We've been to San Miguel before and this was our third visit. This tour took us to places we'd never seen before and each stop was impressive and extremely interesting with someone who could explain and point out what and why.
Lunch at Furnas was something I wanted to try and we weren't disappointed. The walk through the various boilers and drinking spouts was incredible and a unique experience.
The waterfalls and the surrounding park were amazing and a walk in the Terra Nostra Park, followed by a dip in the hot pool, which was the most beautiful.
